Sailing & Surfing on the Achensee

The largest water body in Tyrol is an irresistible attraction to sailors, surfers and Kite surfers. Between one and two o’clock every afternoon in summer, the "Boarische" wind, a strong Northern wind blows here. At this time, you will see many boats sailing towards Gaisalm, Bercher or the Post Hotel, where you can easily dock your boat at the wooden quay. 

• Several providers offer jollyboats or yachts in varying sizes. The Austrian permit A-Schein is sufficient for sailing on the Achensee (equivalent to the German sports boat permit for lakes Sportbootschein See).
• Some sailing lovers prefer taking their own boats when on holiday. The Hotel Post is ideally designed for our guests and their boats. Directly in front of the hotel you find a slipper area. Stephan and Reinhard Kobinger will safely, with the help of a tractor, transport your boat in and out of the water. On request, we can even have your boat transported into the waters of the Yacht club on the banks of the Maurach with a crane.
• In front of the hotel, there is a dock that will house your private boat during your holiday. On request, we can even arrange a buoy for you. Our very own hotel boat is also available to you. For centerboarders (jolly boats) we can offer an extra-large garage.
• Sailing and surfing courses are among the most popular holiday attractions in summer. The sailing school of Achensee regularly conducts sailing courses for children in the summer months and certifies learners with the A Schein. The seminar rooms in the Post Hotel create a conducive learning environment for theory lessons, which are – well, not exactly dry.

The "Stephanie" also ferries Family Kobinger across the lake. The Surprise is a modernly built, sporty cabin boat, which can be used for exciting regattas as well as for relaxing boat trips. A short sailing tour on the Achensee with Stephan or Reinhard Kobinger is a hot favorite with our hotel guests.

Surfing and Kite surfing in Tyrol

The "Boarische wind" usually becomes its strongest around the late afternoon. That’s when innumerable windsurfers flit across the lake, especially at the Hechenberg. The international river and marine law ensures harmony between surfers, kite surfers, sailing lovers and boat cruises. The Achensee is a private water body. You need to obtain an annual permit sticker from the Boating Association Achenseeschifffahrt GesmbH for traversing the lake by boat or board.
