The region's network of around 200 kilometres of cross-country tracks can be accessed from just behind the Hotel Post in Pertisau. From there you can follow the village track into the Karwendel valleys or take the scenic track along the shore of the Achensee to Maurach. Cross-country skiing in the Achensee region is guaranteed from December to March. Artificial snow-making facilities ensure perfect conditions on the tracks for winter sports enthusiasts even if mother nature is uncooperative.
The ski schools in Pertisau offer beginner and refresher courses, both in the classical style and the increasingly popular cross-skating. Once you're ready to go you can choose between the relaxed Pletzach track, which leads over the Pletzach Alm to the Gern Alm, or the slight incline of the Falzthurn track to the Gramai Alm, or the challenging Tristenau circular route with its rapid descents.
Naturally, you can use the tracks free of charge with your AchenseeCard.
For the more competitive among you who would like to pit yourselves against others, you can do so in the Nordischen Achenseelauf (start/mid-January in Achenkirch) and in the Dreitälerlauf (end of February in Pertisau), which has been part of the “Austria Loppet” race series since 2014. And if you're inspired by the pros to have a go at the challenging combination of cross-country skiing and shooting, you have the opportunity in the Laser Biathlon every Tuesday.
